EXPERIENCE AND PRACTICE AREAS
Tom Popejoy was admitted to practice in New Mexico state and federal courts in 1971, and during the first several years of his practice concentrated on estate planning and taxation, probate and real estate. For the past 20 years, Tom has devoted virtually all of his efforts to litigation, representing clients who are contesting or defending the validity of wills and trusts or who are involved in disputes over trust or estate administration. He has also handled contested guardianships and conservatorships, and he has been involved in many cases which have resulted in published opinions in appellate courts.
In addition to his work has a litigator, Tom has been a presenter at many continuing legal education seminars and other professional gatherings. He has served as an expert witness in attorney malpractice, disciplinary and civil proceedings in the fields of probates, trusts and fiduciary law. He has also served as a hearing committee chairman or member in disciplinary proceedings involving other lawyers.
A past president of the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, Tom is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of the American Law Institute. He is "A-V" rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Tom is frequently asked by lawyers and judges to serve as a mediator or settlement facilitator in the areas of contested trusts, probates and guardianships and conservatorships.
